Reiki program at New York City's
St. Vincent’s Comprehensive Cancer Center (SVCCC)

In April 2005, with a generous start-up grant from The Lloyd Symington Foundation, I*ACT partnered with St. Vincent’s Comprehensive Cancer Center to inaugurate a program to provide Reiki treatment to patients, family/caregivers, and staff. As of May, 2007, I*ACT has given over 350 Reiki treatments at SVCCC. Out-patients receive Reiki treatment on a table or in a reclining chair while receiving chemotherapy. Ninety-seven per cent of the patients who report pain and/or anxiety experience improvement in their symptoms after receiving Reiki treatment.

Here are some of the patients' comments:
• I am a skeptic but I feel some inner energy movement, it is beneficial. • I feel relaxed, which is a nice change for a Type-A! • Thank you. I feel peaceful, it made me peaceful. • I was hysterical this morning. I feel much better. • It is like the sun, I can feel the warmth. • My cramps went away after 2 minutes. • I feel like I can breathe better, just great. • I realize that I haven't been touched in a long time. The stomach pain went away for a bit during Reiki. • First time in 2 weeks I haven't had stomach pain and felt nausea. • I feel my energy settle, soothing. • Pain still there but more relaxed. • I hardly ever relax like that. • I'm glad I had this opportunity, thank you.
